Following these discussions, the FDA, in June 2017, took the rare step of requesting Endo Pharmaceuticals to withdraw reformulated Opana ER from the market, citing that its benefits no longer outweighed its risks. Subsequently, in July 2017, Endo complied with the FDA’s request and announced the voluntary removal of the product from the market.
